Orton-Gillingham Methodology

One of the key strengths of the Orton-Gillingham approach is its emphasis on multisensory instruction. This means that learning is facilitated through engaging multiple senses, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile senses. This approach recognizes that individuals with dyslexia often benefit from experiencing information through different modalities simultaneously.

This approach is systematic and structured, progressing from basic phonological and phonemic awareness skills to more complex reading and spelling tasks. This method ensures that learners develop a strong foundation in the fundamental elements of language, gradually building their skills in a logical and sequential manner. This structured approach is particularly beneficial for individuals with dyslexia, who often struggle with the irregularities of English spelling and the connections between sounds and letters.

The Orton-Gillingham approach places a strong emphasis on individualized instruction. Our educators use this approach to tailor their teaching to the specific needs and learning styles of each student. Lessons are designed to address a student's particular challenges and strengths, making learning more effective and engaging. This flexibility allows our instructors to modify their teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learners, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to succeed.

We utilize an evidenced-based,  explicit, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive reading instruction that utilizes the Orton-Gillingham approach. This method works best for dyslexia, but also is highly effective with struggling or delayed readers.  Check out the chart below for a better understanding of this approach!
