Our Whole Person Approach at BestU

Psst....It's worth the read

When it comes to supporting mental health, medication is sometimes part of the picture—but it’s never the whole story. At our center, we believe in treating the whole person, not just isolated symptoms. Mental health is deeply interconnected with physical health, and sometimes symptoms like low mood, irritability, anxiety, or brain fog don’t always start in the brain. Sometimes, they begin with what's happening in the rest of the body.

For example, thyroid dysfunction, especially hypothyroidism, can present just like depression—with fatigue, slowed thinking, and a persistent low mood. Low levels of vitamin D, vitamin B12, and iron have all been scientifically linked to mood disorders, anxiety, and cognitive changes. When these imbalances are identified and corrected—through supplements, nutrition, or injections—mental health often improves significantly.

Similarly, metabolic health plays a powerful role in mental wellbeing. Studies have found that obesity is associated with increased risk of depression and anxiety, while sustainable weight loss can lead to improved mood, energy, and self-esteem. That’s why we offer thoughtful weight loss solutions—not just for physical health, but because feeling good mentally often starts with feeling well physically.

Another commonly overlooked factor is hormonal imbalance, especially as we age. In both men and women, testosterone and estrogen levels naturally decline over time, and these changes can impact mood, motivation, sleep, energy, and even memory. Low testosterone in men has been associated with depressive symptoms, irritability, and reduced cognitive performance. For women, fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone—especially during perimenopause and menopause—can contribute to mood swings, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and feelings of mental fog or emotional vulnerability. These hormone-related changes aren’t “just part of aging”—they’re real biological shifts that deserve attention and support.

We take the time to look at the whole person, not just symptoms. We never jump to conclusions or push a single path forward. Instead, we assess thoroughly, listen deeply, and support your goals with evidence-based strategies tailored to your unique story. Sometimes depression is depression, and in those cases, therapy, medication, or both may be helpful. But other times, there’s a missing piece—a physiological imbalance, a lifestyle factor, or a stressor that needs attention—and we help uncover that too.

For families making decisions about children’s mental health, we know how overwhelming it can be. That’s why we offer behavioral management tools, parent guidance, sleep strategies, and supplement support as alternatives or additions to medication. Research supports the effectiveness of behavioral parent training, sleep hygiene interventions, and even micronutrient supplementation in improving children’s emotional regulation.

We’re here to walk alongside you, without pressure or judgment. We listen first, investigate thoroughly, and walk with you to find the best path forward. Your values matter. Your concerns are valid. And your wellness, your child’s wellness, your family's wellness deserves a thoughtful, balanced approach that considers every possible path to healing.
